To be fair, these riots were the act of a small group of people — a part of the Antifa (anti-Fascist) movement, direct-action anarchists, and other radical groups commonly grouped together under the catch-all of “black bloc,” based on their wearing all-black clothes and hiding their faces for anonymity.
