Peaceful protest — and its powerful message — is being overshadowed by the violent behavior of the anarchists. Violence and bloodshed is what is remembered. It’s what conservatives pounce on. It’s what we’ve been conditioned to expect, and it’s why some people are showing up to protests to watch people smash buildings and, lately, each other.
